Meet the Steward

Where the Story Begins
I’m Jackie, known in the Black Oak as FyreWytche, founder of Black Oak Magick and steward of this particular table.
I’m a writer, spiritual practitioner, Reiki Master Teacher, ordained minister, diviner, researcher, storyteller, and lifelong collector of the small things people leave behind—the recipes, traditions, memories, objects, stories, and bits of wisdom that might otherwise disappear with them.
The Keeper’s Table grew out of something especially personal: my own family and my grandmother Lillian's kitchen. Her kitchen was the center of our home, and today, I have the extraordinary privilege of cooking in that same inherited kitchen. The room has changed with time, as all well-used places do, but its purpose has not. It is still a place where food is prepared, stories are told, people gather, and memory has a way of making itself known.
My relationship with food is not that of a professionally trained chef. I am a home cook and a keeper of recipes—some inherited, some learned by watching, some discovered along the way, and some changed so many times that they have become part of my own kitchen vocabulary. I’m fascinated by where our food comes from, why families prepare things the way they do, what survives across generations, and how culture, migration, hardship, celebration, and love find their way onto a plate.
I also believe the kitchen has always contained its own kind of magick. Not the theatrical sort, and not something that needs to be forced into every recipe. I mean the older, quieter magick of transformation, intention, nourishment, memory, season, repetition, and care. The things our ancestors often practiced without needing to name them.
Through The Keeper’s Table, I’m documenting what has been handed down to me while continuing to learn what others have carried to their own tables. Some entries will begin with my family. Others will wander into food history, heritage, old cookbooks, culinary traditions, kitchen lore, seasonal practices, and recipes worth adding to the collection.
I don’t consider myself the owner of all that knowledge.
I’m simply one of its keepers.
And while it is in my hands, I intend to use it, question it, cook from it, write it down, and pass it along.
